What is Hypnobirthing?

How does Hypnobirthing help?

There are a lot of misconceptions about what hypnobirthing is and isn't so lets clear up some of those first! You may be thinking this all sounds a bit weird, a bit too flowery and hippy - some hypnobirthing teachers are in to this and do teach hypnobirthing with floweryness and crystals included and if you want that sort of course then I’m not the person for you. I’m very analytical, sciency, I like to give the facts and prepare you for everything that could happen in birth, arming you with all of the practical tools you need to get in the right headspace for a positive birth, to cope with pain in labour and to make the best decisions for you and your baby.

Both of my births shaped how I teach hypnobirthing to all the couples I work with and I’m super proud of the fullness of my course. I won’t teach you to imagine your perfect birth and to prepare solely for that so that you’re more likely to get it. I’m more practical than that. I want to make sure that yes, you get a birth that you feel amazing about, but importantly, you are able to feel amazing about your birth however it happens. I can help you prepare for all outcomes and feel confident if there’s an unexpected change of plan.

How does Hypnobirthing work?

Antenatal education: My hypnobirthing course covers full antenatal and birth prep from uterus changes to stages of labour to birth place pros and cons! Not only will you learn tonnes of amazing hypnobirthing strategies that will get you feeling calm, confident and in control for birth, but you’ll learn all the sciency stuff about birth too!

Relaxation: I teach you how to be present in the moment using mindfulness techniques and controlled breathing that will help you stay calm and in control during labour and birth and will help you cope with pain during labour.

Unlearning: Together we will unpack all the scary things you feel about labour and have been told in the past, also giving you strategies for coping with pain during labour, fears you have about birth or even hospital itself.

Re-framing: Transforming fears and uncertainties about birth in to knowledge and excitement. Learn strategies to neutralise negative thoughts so that they have little affect on how you actually feel.

Partnership: You birth partner will learn how they can be most helpful to you in labour and why they play an essential role in your baby’s arrival.

Empowering: Knowledge is power! I will teach you what to include in your birth plan and how to make decisions that are right for you and your baby. You’ll also learn how to make decisions regarding pain relief and interventions such as induction and c sections, and how you can make these scenarios as positive as possible!
