Surprise Home Birth, Super short labour, a positive birth story using Hypnobirthing

Sam and Owen completed a full, 10 hour Hypnobirthing Course with me and really did an amazing job of taking om board every aspect of discussion, home tasks, practice activities and the results were incredible for them.

After hearing about hypnobirthing and following the Contemporary Birth Company on instagram I knew that I wanted to do the 1:1 hypnobirthing course as soon as I fell pregnant and it was the best decision I ever made for my birth!

Throughout the course I felt that Hannah delivered the content in a way that made it easy to understand, remember and practical. As first time parents this gave me and my partner the confidence to make informed decisions that would be right for us and what we wanted for our birthing experience. It also gave my partner the knowledge and understanding of how he could help me and made him feel like he was part of the whole experience.

As we grew closer to our due date we were told that our daughter was ‘too big’ and that we would need to see a consultant. Using the techniques that we have learnt through the course (BRAIN) we discussed what we wanted before seeing a consultant. We were able to have an idea of the questions we wanted to ask and the confidence to ask them without just accepting what we would be told. As it turned out our daughter arrived before the appointment

My waters started to leak so when we went to be examined, my waters fully broke however I wasn’t having any contractions at that time. I started to get some cramping in my lower back on the car ride home but didn’t think too much of it. When my contractions started at home they come in waves exactly as Hannah had described.

I spent time sitting on the toilet, with a hot water bottle on my back in my own little bubble. As things progressed, I found that the calm breathing technique was the only thing that helped me get through each surge. I found that the counting helped me focus and work through the surges without panicking or becoming stressed.

I didn’t believe I was in active labour for a long time as the contractions were mostly in my back but when Owen timed them, we decided we should go to the hospital.

By the time Owen had grabbed my hospital notes I felt the urge to push so instead calling the midwife he called the paramedics!. Despite being at home with just me and my partner, I felt that I had the confidence to listen to my body and work with the sensations without panicking. By the time the paramedics arrived they could see the head and my daughter was delivered safe and healthy with the next surge.

Without the knowledge, education and tips that we gained through the hypnobirthing course there is no way I would have been able to calmly and confidently deliver my daughter at home.

Although we had planned the birthing experience we thought we wanted, reflecting on everything, we had an amazing birth that was so much better than we had planned for and I wouldn’t change anything!

I cannot thank Hannah enough for the knowledge, confidence and advice that she gave us! I would recommend her to anyone that is pregnant and wants to feel empowered to have the birthing experience of their choice!
